Eastern Sierra Ranch House - Needs Work - Hwy 395 - California

Sometimes when surfin’ for abandoned places, you’ll see a picture of a spot so cool you need to find it and take your own pictures of it. Gets problematic when you can’t really find any history or location info about it. But a challenge is a good thing. I spotted the picture on one platform, was able to make contact with the person who posted the photo, who was kind enough to confirm it was still there. Some research time later, I knew where it was and basically planned a weekend roadtrip to this spot and one other nearby. With lots of stops along the way and back home, it was an amazing run of cool spots along the 395.

What is it that draws folks to search for, then go to, find, explore and take pictures of these old forgotten places? I’ve had a fascination with doing so for as long as I can remember. Such places offer a unique glimpse into the past; the peeling paint, decaying walls and overgrown nature create a feeling of both mystery and nostalgia in me. I think about all the stories that took place in whatever location I’m at, that are now almost surely forgotten. I find something beautiful, something sad, something worth trying to preserve a little bit of their history. So, I take pictures (and recently started video) as many places I’ve been to in the past are no longer around for others to experience. The passage of time is often not kind. Ok, enough sharing.

Who owned this land, who lived here? What are its stories? If you know, please comment below. And now a few photos taken under threatening skies.

The house appears to have been very well constructed. It would be awesome to see how it once looked when a family lived here.

I need to remember to bring along an N95 mask when I’m going to be going into places like this. So many rat droppings…..yuck.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and view the images! Maybe they’ll inspire like-minded exploratographers to take a road trip.

Stay safe in your adventures, wherever they might take you. Catchya on the next trip.
